Creating an Efficient Home Office
Creating an Efficient Home Office

According to Stanford University, working from home has become more common than ever, with 42 percent of the U.S. labor force doing it full-time. This means that the need for a productive home office is a requirement that many people share. From choosing the right computer to finding a desk that fits perfectly in your office space, creating a home office takes a bit of planning and foresight.

Select the Space

You may need to get creative if you don’t have an abundance of space to work with. Turning a closet into an office is an option if you simply remove the clothes pole. However, if you will be spending a lot of time working, it may benefit you to find someplace with a better view and more room. Locate a place in your home that isn’t used very often, such as a dining room or guest room.

Devise a Plan

Write down all of the things that you are going to require to work comfortably and efficiently, while not breaking your wallet in the process. A good place to begin is with lighting and proper temperature control. Make certain you have a phone available, and if you have windows nearby, be sure that you have window coverings that will allow you to control the light coming in. Flooring beneath your desk should be a hard surface, so your desk chair can easily move around.

Sit Comfortably

Avoid just going out and buying a desk and chair that look pretty. It is wise to look into getting ergonomic office furniture so that you will always be able to work comfortably and truly enjoy working at home. Selecting the right chair is particularly important. It should be the right height, provide proper back and arm support, and feel comfortable to sit upon.

By planning out your home office, organizing it, and decorating it to reflect your personal taste, you will likely enjoy your nine to five much more.
